The key to managing risks on site is to remain vigilant.
Different tools keep safety at the forefront of our thinking every day, but it’s how we use these tools that help us mitigate risk.
Today we’re comparing two of these tools that we use. Our Risk Assessment and our JSA.
Risk Assessments are conducted when starting a new job to identify the potential hazards. They uncover the project specific risks, such as working at heights, traffic and underground services. Ecoplant conduct a Pre-job Safety Inspection on all projects where these bigger picture risks are evaluated.
JSAs are for day to day hazard identification. They keep our employees conscious of the space they’re working in and remain aware of the dangers they see every single day. These hazards include snakes, heat stress and the public. Our Toolbox Talks include a JSA which is used to identify any unforeseen risks and also incorporates new risks.
The key with risk and safety is to assess the environment based on worst case scenarios. Every workplace regardless of the industry, has hazards. Tools such as risk assessments and JSAs are simply to help us remain vigilant.
